Both the glaucoma and occlusion pathways have been identified specifically as areas where patient engagement and ability to self manage impacts greatly on the achievement of their clinical outcomes, yet where compliance to dispensing eye drops can be poor thus prolonging the length of time to achieving improved vision and the overall length of face-to-face intervention required.
The pathways are also seeking to enable patients to remotely engage with the Community Eye Service, improving the appropriateness of appointments and reducing the DNA rate. Introduction has recently commenced and is being supported by the Trust’s evaluation and research lead.
